Hello out there! I finally got around to making a new blog banner, having been inspired by a fabulous digital kit from Deviant Scrap called Ode to a Muse 2. The Muse referenced is Michael DeMeng, master purveyor of all things creepy-cool. He teaches workshops and also has a line of stamps with Stamper's Anonymous.

My banner was made mostly with elements from the Ode to a Muse 2 kit. But the man in white and the little boy are from another Deviant Scrap kit, Slightly Sinister.

It was great fun to work with these kits. But "watch this space", as I will be designing an off-the-wall Christmas themed banner soon. I was very fortunate to win Marta van Eck's new kit from her blog contest, called Creepy Christmas, also from Deviant Scrap. It is actually a very cute kit, and you could make perfectly normal scenes with it. . . but what fun would that be?! Here's the kit preview:

Bookplates

Gee, can you believe - two posts in two days after the big gap? Well, there is a fantastic new technique by Shelly Hickox that you can find on her blog and I couldn't wait to try it. The technique is called Faux Crazed Porcelain - it is simple to do and yields great results. On Shelly's blog you can see the photo of her tutorial sample that shows how glossy the finished "Porcelain" looks. I scanned my bookplates, and unfortunately you can't see the gloss.

The frames are done with Ranger Crackle Paint in Tarnished Brass and Brushed Pewter. After it was dry, I rubbed it with a Ranger black paint dabber, then wiped with a paper towel. They look great in person. The tags were cut from white chipboard using the Tim Holtz Tag and Bookplates die. Stamps are by River City Rubber Works and Nick Bantock. Of course the centers were made using Shelly's Faux Crazed Porcelain technique. Be sure to go look and try it!

You should be able to click on the picture for a closer inspection. Ranger Crackle Paint is magic in a bottle!

Umbrella Man Tag

Good morning, Tim Holtz fans! Long time, no post. But here I am, back again with a tag that I am very happy with. I included two pictures, one with flash & one without. One shows better color and the other shows better detail. My inspiration for this tag was Tim's day 12 Christmas tag from 2010.

My "live, local" card swap group, the Card'Ologists, had our 10th anniversary this month. So instead of making a card, I made this totally Tim tag for each member. I typed the phrase "Card'Ologists 10th Anniversary" repeatedly using lots of different fonts and font sizes. That was printed on Paper Trey cream colored card stock. Using Tim's Tag and Book Plates die, I was able to cut 3 tags from each 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Using that same die, the reinforcement was cut from Grunge Paper. The Umbrella Man was cut from Grunge Paper, colored with Distress Stains, stamped with the Simple Stripes Stampin' Up bacground stamp, and sprayed with Inkadinkadoo Black shimmery spray ink. The rose pieces and leaf stem were cut from retired Stampin' Up Marvelous Magenta card stock (rose) and Stardream green card stock (leaves) using older Sizzix dies. The rose pieces were stamped with the Flannel Plaid Stampin' Up bacground stamp. The green Stardream metallic card stock didn't want to accept ink on the edges, so I used a dark brown Sharpie Marker. EVERYTHING was distressed around the edges with various colors of Distress Ink pads. The leaves and roses were pounced with Ranger gold Ink Dabber. I printed the calendar I found on line with brown ink on Curious Metallics White Gold card stock. the "10" digits were cut from Curious Metallics gold card stock using an alphabet set by Cuttlebug. For the last detail, I looped 5 coordinating fibers through the reinforcment at the top of the tag.

I hope you enjoy looking at this tag as much as I enjoyed making them!

Stampotique Designer's Challenge

Emboss or Die CD

Fancy Folds and Motion Paper Crafts CD is HERE!

Steampunk Bandwagon

And now. . . for something completely different! I've been doing digital stuff for a couple of years using Paint Shop Pro - always the current version available. It is a fantastic, powerful program.

One of my favorite digital scrapbook stores is Scrapbookgraphics Studio Girls, and one of my very favorite designers is Tangie Baxter. She just came out with the most fantastic, bizarre, wonderful, shades of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" kit called Steampunk Bandwagon. You can buy individual parts of the kit, but what the heck, just get the entire Mega Bundle. It's a huge savings if you buy the bundle, anyway.

I was so excited that immediately after downloading the kit, I plopped right down in front of my laptop and designed the following layout. This one took me about 5 hours to choose elements, reduce, enlarge, crop, enhance and shade. I'm actually using this for my live, local card swap group for this month's theme of things that fly. It's a stamp club, but hopefully they won't shoot me for sharing a digital creation.

This was so much fun! You can click on the picture to see a much larger version. Notice that Mona Lisa is holding a souvenier sized Statue of Liberty, minus the shades and bling I adorned her with in the larger version.

This kit just has so many possibilites. I know I'll be playing with this one for a long time!

The sentiment is from Inkadinkadoo and the dotted swirls are from Limited Edition. I'm sorry I don't know the maker of the birdcage & bird stamps. I received those images in an image swap.

Faux Rusty Metal

Good morning! Today's card uses a technique called Faux Rusted Metal from the April/May 2010 issue of Technique Junkie Newsletter. In real life, this card has much more texture, shimmer, and color variation than you can see in the picture. If you have some of the new Tim Holtz Alterations dies, like the locks & keys, gears, birdcage, or sign, this would be an excellent technique. It really does look like metal!

The stamps are by Artistic Outpost and are stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with black embossing powder. The image piece is mounted on black, then on brushed copper card stock.

I made extra pieces, so you may see more postings - maybe a birdcage or some gears in our future!

Sunflowers and Dragonflies Challenge #38

Hello out there. Well, I forgot to post my Sunflowers and Dragonflies challenge this morning - so sorry about that!

The challenge this week is to make a card with "No Layers". You can see my example below. It is actually two layers, as I mounted the white piece with all the images onto a navy base card. But all the images were added to a single layer of white card stock by masking and stamping. Makes you look twice, doesn't it! The face is the S & D Cheyenne, and the background stamp is the S&D Cheyenne Flourish. By the way, if you have trouble finding ethnic stamps, take a look at the whole "Ladies" series of stamps. They are fantastic and look good with any ethnic coloring you choose.

Today, Sunflowers and Dragonflies has a great sketch challenge for you, as you can see below. Here is my interpretation of the sketch. I chose to use a piece of ribbon trimmed to a diamond shape. The stamp is a center from the JustRite Favorite Occasions Borders and Centers set. Cuttlebug folders were used on the background and on the rose red strip.

Technique Junkies - Glitzy Lace

Wow, can you believe Easter is already behind us and Spring is officially here?

Today's card uses one of my very favorite techniques called Glitzy Lace from the April/May 2010 issue of Technique Junkie Newsletter. Not a subscriber to Technique Junkie yet? Go here for all the information, plus free Watercolor Crayon Tutorials!

One of my dear friends has me make all her cards, and this one is for her in-laws' 50th Wedding Anniversary in May. The lace I used in making this card was a leftover piece from a wedding dress I made for a sister-in-law in 1984. The numbers are Cuttlebug die cuts and the frame die is by Nestabilities. The Glitzy Lace piece is edged with a gold Krylon Leafing Pen, then mounted on Brushed Gold card stock and Paper Trey Stampers' Select White card stock.

Sunflowers and Dragonflies Challenge #36

Good morning, fellow stampers! Today's challenge is to use the colors blue, orange, and yellow. As soon as I got the assignment, I knew just what I wanted to do. I used the Sunflowers and Dragonflies New York Door stamp. The stamped image is colored with Copic markers and is cut out and popped up on a piece of paper from the Basic Grey Sultry collection. I colored a shadow on the yellow Basic Grey paper with a W3 Copic marker. I also colored the cut edge all the way around the cut out image with a black Copic marker. The yellow is mounted on navy blue cardstock (which looks black in the picture), and then on tan cardstock. The lock & key are held in place with a black square brad.

Here is the sketch you need to follow. NOTE: I have all the directions for you here. There are some errors in the newsletter directions for the sketch. Pat has a new pdf file for the directions on the Technique Junkie site for the Apirl/May 2010 Issue in case you want to print it.

Remember that you must use at least two different Technique Junkie techniques on your card.

The deadline for the challenge is May 15, 2010.

Supplies:

-Base cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored in half to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
-Layer one: 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Coordinating Cardstock
-Layer A: 4 1/8" x 2" piece of "Technique" Paper/Cardstock
-Layer B: 1 1/2" x 3/4" piece of "Technique" Paper/Cardstock
-Layer C: 1/4" x 1 1/2" strip of "Technique" Paper/Cardstock
-Layer D: 1 1/2" x 3 1/8" piece of "Technique" Paper/Cardstock
-Layer E: 1/2" x 3 5/8" piece of "Technique" Paper/Cardstock

-Coordinating Ink
-Focal Image or Greeting Stamp (approximately 2 1/4" x 2 1/4")
-Three small brads, buttons, flowers, or other embellishment

Directions:

1. Attach Layers A through E to Layer One, folloiwng the arrangement in the sketch.
2. Attach the three embellishments to the bottom right corner of layer E.
3. Attach Layer One to the Base Cardstock, leaving even spacing between the tops and sides of the pieces..
4. Attach the Focal Image to the center of the layered rectangles.

Here is my sample. I used "Glitzy Lace" from the April/May 2010 Issue and "Double Bugging" from the June/July 2009 Issue. Card stock is Basic Black and Brushed Gold. Focal image is from Club Scrap. Double Bugging was done using Cuttlebug folders. This card is VERY sparkly in real life!

Sunflowers and Dragonflies Challenge #35

Happy Saturday, fellow stampers! The Sunflowers and Dragonflies challenge this week is to make a birthday card using the JustRite birthday stamp from the JustRite Favorite Occasions Borders and Centers 1 5/8 inch set. Or, if you don't have that, make a birthday card using what you have. Sunflowers and Dragonflies are now carrying more JustRite stamps in different sizes, and even more will be there soon. Unfortunately, the Sunflowers and Dragonflies Blog has suffered some problems which prevent you from linking your cards and winning prizes. But you can still go there and see everyone's lovely art!

Hello, Stampers! Today, it's all about the Luck of the Irish. If you'd like a chance to win the prize below, make a card using the Luck of the Irish stamp from the JustRite "Favorite Occasions Borders and Centers" set, or another St. Patrick's day stamp (if you don't have that set). Then go to the Sunflowers and Dragonflies Blog for instructions on how to post a link to your creation.
Below is the card I made with the Luck of the Irish stamp. The central image is colored with Copic Markers. I used a Cuttlebug folder on the yellow cardstock and also on the green cardstock. The green is a piece of Core'dinations, which I sanded after running it through the folder. It was cut out using a Spellbinders Nestabilities die. I then cut into the edge at each scallop and bent the petals up to make a flower.

Then go to the S&D Blog for details on how to post a link to your creation.Here is what I did with the sketch. I used 3 Cuttlebug folders and the S&D "Ladies" stamp called Melody. I used only the head, and actually used a Micron pen to fill in hair at the back of her head. She is colored using Copic Markers.

Technique Junkies - Sparkle Paper

Hello, TJ fans! I have a sample for you today using the Sparkle Paper Technique from the June 2008 issue of Technique Junkies Newsletter. I used a Cuttlebug folder that came with some matching sentiment die cuts. I cut the words once from black card stock and again from yellow card stock and layered them, slightly offset. This is a terrific technique, but you can't look at it in bright sunlight - it's blinding! When viewed in subdued light, the results are spectacular.
